Hostal Cabanas is locally-run by Humberto Latacunga and his warm and friendly family.
Accommodation is basic, with rooms comprising of double and single beds. All rooms have electric hot water with towels supplied and a small fireplace which is bliss as it gets cold about 3pm.
Prices for a double room are $10 each, and dormitory $8 each. Price includes both breakfast and dinner with breakfast comprising of eggs, bread with butter and jam, fruit salad, oats and milk and a choice of tea, coffee or hot chocolate.
Dinner includes soup, rice, potatoes, egg with either chicken or other meat (can vary). Traditional dishes such as cuy are also available.
Humberto also leads treks and has mules for hire - it's worth mentioning that he's an excellent artist too and his paintings can be viewed and purchased at the hostal. The hostal also has a restaurant with meal prices ranging from $2.50 - $3 and water, beer and soft drinks are also sold.
