Strange translation Nov 04, 2010
Combarro is a small village to the north of the Ria de Pontevedra in Galicia. Without a car you need to get a bus from Pontevedra towards Sanxenxo and ask when to get out. It's obvious enough once you have done it but very easy to miss the first time.

Other than the views of the ria, which are attractive enough in themselves, the main appeal lies in the numerous horreos. These are a bit like tombs at first sight but are actually well aired containers for storing grain. They are set on legs to keep out rats and have crosses on the top to keep out evil spirits!

There is just one shop and of course it sells post cards. Obviously foreigners would not know what the horreos are so a helpful translation is given on the cards - and the English on mine said - 'lurking places!'
