Biggest theme park in Brazil. Not very big though. Jul 16, 2011
Located in Vinhedo, maybe 50km from Sao Paulo, accessible mainly by car. This is the biggest theme park in Brazil. It has some nice attractions, but if you have been in a big European or American park, this is not worth at all.

Ok, so here I was, for the second time at Brazil's largest theme park. Hopi Hari is located between Campinas and São Paulo, and since that's a pretty much urban area, you are never gonna find an empty park. There's always someone in line with you, waiting for the thrills of the world's biggest rollercoaster made of wood. Scary, I know, but safer than it sounds. At least, I think so. 'Cause I can't say the same for the looping rollercoaster - the one that shoots you back and forth through a loop on a straight rail. The first time I went to Hopi Hari, it was closed, no explanations necessary. This second time, we were in line for almost an hour, when it stopped for repairs. The park was closing at six, and it was way past five already. And just for the maintenance guys to arrive took half an hour! But at that time, I was already used to waiting. It was a long day of waiting - some of it ok, some not so believable. Yes, an hour or two in line for a ride is expected, kinda like DisneyWorld in july. What really bothered me was losing 50 minutes just to get a hamburger and some fries in one of the food stands. Overcrowded, and with undertrained staff. Not only they were slow and fussy, everything was disorganized, from the line to the way they served. And there were only four (overpriced) main options.I must admit that the burger tasted pretty good, though. Meaty, tasty and quite big for a fast-food burger. But the price was way out of proportion, like anything else over there. 3 reais for a bottle of water is outrageous for brazilian parameters. But that's just me being the old guy I realized I am over there. No more energy for 12 hours standing in line under the sun. But the thing that really matters, which is the quality of the rides, is covered well enough. Besides the wood and looping rollercoasters, there's one with little cars for two people that spin while going up and down inside a completely dark pyramid. There's also free fall, bungee jumping (you have to pay extra), viking boat, and all the average theme park stuff. There's even a brazilian version to "It's a small world" made with our states and an even lamer song. The park offers a bus service (you also have to pay extra) that picks you up at specific spots, and bring you back after the park closes. There are lots of rides for kids, and it's placed on an enormous area. Which can make it even more tiresome, if you are carrying decades of beer and tv on your belly. Still, the joy of the adrenalin rush you fell when riding a crazy rollercoaster is something everyone must experience every once in a while, to remember why we are alive.
