Homestay Riga Reviews
Home from home Feb 12, 2010
I have stayed here on all 3 of my trips to Riga. Homestay is a delightful wooden house which is family-run by Diga Daga and her husband Ric. Digas mum also helps out, as do her pets, Sara the dog and Mouse the cat.
Only 30 minutes from Riga airport, a journey across the bridge and through the old town, you truely get a good look at Riga on your way. Situated near Mezzaparks lake, Homestay really makes you feel like you are seeing the traditional Latvian culture.
Wooden floors throughout, as you enter the house there is one of the double bedrooms available to guests near the staircase. Up the lovely wooden stairs you will find a large 2-roomed bedroom with enough space for a double and 2 singles; there's also a smaller double room across the landing, and these rooms share the bathroom on the 1st floor.
Breakfast is included, and sitting around a huge wooden table, Diga will make you whatever you want - full "English", pancakes, toast, cereal (out of a box), and tea & coffee. You also have the advantage that whilst Ric is from New Zealand, Diga is Latvian, and will sit and tell you about the history of her lovely home country.
Only a 5 minute walk from the tram stop, you are never more that half an hour away from Riga city centre. There is a local pub by the tram stop where you can get cheap traditional hot meals, and a small shop for essentials. There's also a chemist for emergencies.
