Holy Taco Atlanta Reviews
Off the beaten track in East Atlanta: the Holy Taco for devilishly good food May 01, 2010
The Holy Taco in East Atlanta is hidden off the main street, around the corner on Glenwood down from the Flatiron. Surrounded by pre-gentrified businesses, it stands out with its sparkling windows, tiled entrance, and immaculate interior.
Server Greg is welcoming and knowledgeable about the menu. First off, he recommends the chips with queso $6 – an awesome slightly spicy queso with extra thick, slightly greasy chips. They go well with the organic house margarita, a bit expensive at $7.75, but smooth.
The menu offers several options; Greg thinks the Espiga de cerdo a la brasa/pork shank is the best main dish ($15), especially when paired with the Elote asado – a delicious grilled corn on the cob with lots of glop on top. Difficult to eat without a handful of napkins and be prepared to get lots of corn in your teeth, but it’s worth the mess, especially given the price at $3.
If you’ve already chowed on queso and chips, the corn and a taco or two may be plenty. The Lengua taco/beef tongue is Greg’s top choice, followed by the Carne de falda/beef brisket – both at $3.
The atmosphere, both indoors and out, is awesome, but the outdoor patio is definitely a winner. Spacious, comfortable, and with flowering plants everywhere, it’s a delightful place to while away an afternoon or evening.
While one server said pets were not allowed on the huge spacious patio, Greg said they are welcome at the tables bordering the street, where there are even dog bowls set out. Because of the inconsistent answer on whether the Holy Taco is pet friendly, you should have a backup plan if bringing your four legged buddies in case the outside tables are full, or in case you get a server other than Greg.
