A must in Jerusalem Mar 22, 2008
I've visited the Holy Sepulchre many times during my stay in Jerusalem during 1999-2000 and again in 2004. It's in the Old City and there are signs that will point you to its location, although mostly if you're coming from the Christian Quarter.

The Holy Sepulchre is believed to be the place where Jesus was crucified, known as Calvary/Golgotha, and buried. The place is bigger than it looks when you come upon it. There is an old chapel inside and mosaics (don't forget to look down from time to time), although there is limited natural light once you're inside. It's well worth a visit even if you're not religious or a Christian. It's free admission, but donations at various points are gladly accepted. It'll take you anywhere from 15 minutes to an hour to see everything, depending on how crowded it is. It tends to be crowded around Christmas and Lent.

Getting to the Holy Sepulchre will be a challenge for those with weak legs or hip problems. There are steps through a good part of the Old City and inside the Holy Sepulchre. Getting up to Calvary will require going up a steep stairwell, which is immediately to your right when you go inside the Holy Sepulchre. Please be careful.

Please note that you should dress modestly (cover your shoulders, skirt/shorts should be below the knees, nothing revealing/provocative) or you will be kicked out. I've found that a sarong really comes in handy in Israel.

Please also be respectful while you're there visiting since the place is of major religious significance.

Finally, a young boy showed us the way to the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, a church built on the site where Jesus was crucified and buried.  What a powerful place!  To see the empty tomb...what a way to end our first day in Jerusalem! … Jerusalem - The Holy City

At some sites like the Church of the Holy Sepulchre (which I can see from my bedroom window), I can understand why Christians find so much connection. I don't feel it, but I understand others' feelings. I can't help though but to see the Dome of the Rock and the Al Aqsa… Email from Israel #5 (final)
