Hollywood Bowl Reviews

The Hollywood Bowl is set into the hills of Hollywood. Parking can be a mess but once you have found some you travel in and up to find a bowl like setting for shows. Each year they put out a list of shows they will be showing through out the season. Musicals and orchestra performances are the norm. The benches are slightly uncomfortable but pillows can be brought to liven it up a bit. The lights and sounds are wonderful. The Bowl is next to a major freeway but once you are inside its like you are in some isolated hillside with no traffic or city around you.
Picnics are encouraged and people bring in food to each with their families before the performances. They have booths with food and beverages that you can buy (A large beer was $8.00 grr) A good way to travel is to take the bus from El Monte bus station. The bus picks you up and drives you directly to the Bowl. No parking fee here. Then bus then waits until the show is over and picks you up and takes you back to the bus station. No need to remain sober and no need to fight with traffic and parking. All in all the Hollywood Bowl is a nice place to go and sit and enjoy the sounds. |

Hollywood Bowl is a great cultural center reinforced by great organization. This beautiful outdoor amphitheatre is in the heart of Hollywood. Public transportation and shuttle service goes all over L.A. to take patrons right to its doorstep. And the acts booked are legendary, and I don't use that word lightly.
I was lucky enough to have been there frequently during the 2005 season, where I saw Tony Bennett, Natalie Cole, Harry Connick Jr. and Babel Gilberto. What a fantastic year that was! This is one of the few places left in a big city where you have the liberty to bring your own food and wine, have a picnic, and relax under the open sky. They also sell food and have a couple of restaurants inside, if I'm not mistaken. Tickets range from very expensive up front to $1 all the way in the back. There are at least a couple of huge projection screens showing you what's happening onstage. All in all a great time and a perfect place to have a nice date =) |
