Holiday Inn Resort Penang Georgetown (Malaysia) Reviews
Holiday Inn Resort, Georgetown, Penang Jan 16, 2011
I had an extremely tiring drive last weekend as I was working through all 6 days. Heading up to Batu Ferringhi was a totally last minute decision, so was staying at Holiday Inn. I had initially wanted to stay at other more well known Beach Side resort, but they were all fully book. I had, pretty reluctantly decide to agree on this resort.
What can I say? I had no regrets.
I was surprised when I was told by my partner that it is actually a four star hotel. The hotel looked posh and clean. The Lobby sort of gave me a "back to the future" feeling with all its rattan and antique furnitures and the soothing music played are just pleasant to the ear.
We were offered a Sea View Suite that was newly refurbished and goodness, they were SO spacious and so cosy! I absolutely love the room! Very well decorated and kept really clean, as posh as a 5 star room and the bathroom is extremely clean too. I'm a clealiness freak, so when I say it's clean, it really is! However, there was a slight disappointment as to the room, as the "Sea View" that we had were literally blocked by trees that are too tall so we can barely even enjoy the "Sea View"! Apart from that tiny issue, everything else about the room just surpassed my expectations by a mile.
Moving on the cafe, I did not manage to try out much food, but I did have a go at their concocted cocktails! YUM! is all I can say... Quality cocktails. I have to say, the Tequila Sunrise and Dry Martinies were top notched. It is not always that we get to have good concocted coctails in hotels.
Beach view was spectacular. Sandy Beaches. Waves. Sun. Water Sports. Thats my idea of a vacation! Since I saw a few companies having their team building activities there, I'm guessing it is a good sport for Group activities as well..
During the night, right outside the hotel, will be rows of night market stalls where you get to purchase some local items and clothes / bags at a pretty decent price if you know how to bargain.. For foreigners visiting Malaysia for the first time, perhaps you may want to try out the trishaw ride around the area. Just be careful though as there are some unscrupulous Rickshaw drivers that may demand for up to RM60 for a short trishaw ride.. There were also a whole stretch of dining places to choose from if you choose to dine out of the hotel.
All in all, I had a pretty memorable, albeit a short stay at this place. If I have to point an area that needs improvement, it's probably the Staff service.. Better service provided would have made it a perfect choice of accomodation.
