Great Views, great place May 27, 2011
Ok, I feel very at home here in this property. After quite of few options in the Sydney area, I choose this property, mostly for the views they showed on their website. I promise you, you will not be disappointed. The hotel is located in the Rocks area of Sydney which is right near the Circular Quay train station. The train station is within walking distance and not too bad of a hike. The hotel is within walking distance of all the main attractions including the Harbour Bridge and the Opera House. It was a 10-minute walk to the marina with all the restaurants and bars and ferry stops to other areas etc. The Rocks Markets are right at the front door. The Rocks Discovery Centre (museum) is not that far away, out the side door. Lots of things to do like eating shopping and touring are just a within a few minutes’ walk. The views are spectacular from the rooftop. The rooftop is where the outdoor heated pool and spa were located. We enjoyed the small shallow pool that was about 3 feet deep. The tables and just being up top made it all worth it.
When I walked into the hotel, I had this feeling I was entering an old Embassy Suites with the large open lobby surrounded by 10 floors of well maintained guest rooms, a bar, a computer center and a lot of nice furniture. The actually interior of the hotel initially looks like a prison with big yellow bricks and this would be our only very small negative but apart from that we couldn't fault it and would definitely return and recommend this hotel. The staff was very kind and very welcoming. They greeted me with a nice smile and got me to my room. This room was at a great rate mostly because of my enrollment in the priority club program, which you can find at and join for free at http://www.ichotelsgroup.com. They offer a "lowest internet price guarantee". If you find the same room on a public booking site other than theirs, they will match the price and give you an additional 10% discount. Priority Club members also get a free newspaper in the morning and you can points towards free rooms in the future.
The room was pretty basic, but had 2 comfortable double beds, was clean and everything was working. The large windows that opened to views of the Bridge and the opera house were great. The room had good heating and air conditioning. We had a fantastic view of the opera house and the Bridge. There was very little noise from the road outside. The beds were large and comfortable with nice pillows and soft sheets. The room was very clean and modern with a nice flat screen tv with a variety of stations including a couple of American news programs. The rooms also had tea/coffee making facilities, TV, safe, toiletries in the bathroom etc. They have Internet service available, but it was a bit expensive to me at $27.50 a day. You can buy vouchers for it from receptionist or you can use the computers they have in the lobby.
We had breakfast one day at the hotel and this was one of the best breakfasts I had ever had at a hotel. The choices were amazing with a freshly made egg station which made it even better for my friend. The breakfast was well done, with a juicer on the buffet to make your own fresh fruit & vegetable juice. They had a chef at a station cooking eggs to order. Plenty of fresh fruit available, as well as pastries and full hot breakfast! The restaurant is not available for dinner; however they do offer room service. This isn't really an issue as there are lots of great places to eat within a two minute walk.
The entire stay was really good and at really reasonable price. This is a place that I would recommend to anyone staying in the area long or short term. The hotel also has a shuttle that will pick you up and take you to the airport which is far cheaper than a taxi. I will stay here again in the future if I ever get the opportunity to visit Sydney again.

Good location, poor value. Mar 29, 2011
I stayed in the Holiday Inn, Old Sydney or 'The Rocks' as they call the area, the hotel was OK, the side rooms away from the bridge were better but can be noisy from the pubs & bars, the front facing rooms were more used but suffer from road noise.
The hotel does have a rooftop pool & hot tub with a view of the bridge etc. but don't take a car there as they charge $35 a day for parking and they charge top prices for everything like internet.
The only cheap thing there was laundry at $2 a was & $2 a dry, the breakfast was good but try not to spend any time talking to the staff as they have a Manager from Hell that gives them a nightmare if you take up any of their time talking.
