Holiday Inn Florence Reviews
Tuscan Central Dec 16, 2009
The Holiday Inn Florence was a pretty good hotel for those who are traveling by car. It was quite a ways away from the center of town with a taxi ride necessary to get to and from the central train station.
The hotel is located in a business/residential area. The lobby is nothing too exciting. Looks like a throw back from the early 70’s. They had a bar and a restaurant with a few seats to lounge around on while you waited for friends or the computer. The furniture was old, but clean. The entire front staff was polite. They recognized me as a priority club member and put me in an upgraded room on a priority club floor. It was very clean and colorful.
There is a bus that runs directly to the center of town. The bus stop is right in front of the hotel and you can buy tickets for it at the front desk. The service is pretty good, running late into the evening. I felt safe and would recommend this is as the mode of transportation around town.
The room itself was rather large with giant windows overlooking a gas station. Oh well, can have everything. The bed and pillows were just right. The room provided great lighting and plenty of working space to lay out all of your maps and travel gear. They also provide a small tray of free goodies including coffee and tea.
The bathroom was spacious and had some great little soaps and shampoos. I was rather pleased that they also had an ice machine on the floor. It is unusual to see ice machines in Europe for free let alone on each floor. They even provided large cups to take it back to your room.
The restaurant was pretty good as well. I had a great steak and fries. They were quite surprised when I asked for fries with my meal, but I guess they shrugged it off as me “just being American.” The service was really good and the portions great. Everyone at the hotel was very helpful even making a long distance phone call to my hotel in Venice for me.
A few things to remember when traveling in Europe, The electricity, lights at least, are turned on when you put your key in the appropriate place. The placement of that key card also insures you turn the lights out and don’t forget your key. It was handy, but sometimes annoying if you just wanted to run in and plop down. Those infamous mini bars are expensive as heck. I just ran down to the local supermarket that was just a feet away. There is a cord in the bathroom and near the bed in most of the hotels. I quickly learned that it was for emergencies. You know like, help I have fallen and can’t get up. All kidding aside, it was a nice feature that I am glad I didn’t need this time.
Although not very close to the train station, it is a good place to stay. Quiet and clean with access to all you need. I would stay here again.
