Great rates at the top of Texas Aug 11, 2008
The Holiday Inn Express Hotel in Dalhart, TX has to have been one of the best stays I have had at a HIE. They are located at the top panhandle of Texas, the gateway to ski resorts in the winter, and hiking in the summer. The hotel is conveniently located at the intersections of the three major highways, Highway 87, Highway 54, and Highway 385. I was warmly greeted upon entering the property. Heather, the front desk clerk addressed me by name and got my stay off to a great start. I wasn’t planning on staying at this property, but I was going to see how far I could drive and find a nice place to bunk down for a few hours.
The per night rates at this place were very reasonable. The rooms were very clean, the beds comfortable and I can’t forget to talk about the 4 different pillows they have on each bed. I liked that the room had a ceiling fan, VCR, a refrigerator, a microwave oven free high speed internet and a large flat screen TV with tons of stations to watch. I loved all the little amenities in the room including a pack of sugar free gum, the toiletries in the bath, and all the free coffee packets. I know that sounds insignificant, but after traveling all day, my mouth was dry and it was a nice treat. The hotel is 100% smoke free and just the weekend before they celebrated the Xit rodeo and had a free BBQ for its guests. I am sorry I missed that. As of last year, they no longer allow any pets. The hotel has a nice pool area that has a very cozy hot tub. There is an exercise room which had various pieces of workout equipment. It was clean and well maintained. The morning breakfast which is always free, was as good as it was free. They had large leather chairs and a large leather couch that you could sit in to enjoy your meal. The flat screen TV’s made it easy to watch the news from all places in the dinning area. The breakfast variety was good. They had a variety of hot foods and cold items. I really enjoyed it. This is a great place to stop. I really felt at home here. So, if you are traveling through the top of Texas, I don’t think you will find a more accommodating and friendlier staff. I totally recommend this place to anyone traveling in the Panhandle. I have photos that I need to download in the next couple of days, until then, enjoy. Part of the Trip to Colorado travel blog |
