Holiday Inn City Stars Reviews

Another overpriced place with disapointing service Mar 09, 2009
The Holiday Inn City Stars had just opened when I previously visited Cairo, but I ended up staying at the Intercontinental Hotel as that was still the hotel of choice for my company. However, the Holiday Inn is not only cheaper, it is also closer to the Cairo branch of my office (as in, 1 minute walk instead of 5). And as is evident from my review of the Interconti, I didn’t really like that place, so for the second half of this year’s Cairo visit I opted for the Holiday Inn instead.
I must say, the no-frills, can-do attitude of Holiday Inn suited me much better than the disappointingly posh Interconti. When a hotel looks modern and efficient, rather than unnecessary luxury, the service is much less likely to disappoint. And as far as amenities go, the Holiday Inn is exactly the same as the Interconti. Comfy beds, air-con rooms, free Internet, TV, bathroom, breakfast, swimming pool, gym, restaurants, bar and whatnot. Oh, one thing struck me as absolutely ridiculous though. You can book transport to and from the airport (20 minutes) and you have the choice between a regular limo for $ 30, or a yellow Hummer for $ 50. Now why would anyone want to be picked up by a yellow hummer?? I opted for a street cab which cost me $ 2. Same colour, same travel time, less embarrassment. Part of the Egypt travel blog |
