Holiday Club Saariselka Reviews
Ideal for exploring the Urho Kekkosen Kansallispuisto park. Mar 08, 2011
Saariselka is located about 200k north of the Arctic in Finnish Lapland and is the gateway to the Urho Kekkosen Kansallispuisto national park. As far as I know cheap hotel accommodation in Lapland doesn’t really exist but as part of a flights+hotel deal this place makes a trip here affordable.
The hotel is next to a bus stop on route to Ivalo airport about 1hour flight from Helsinki. If you drive here it has electrical hook-ups in the carpark. It’s quite a big place with 100+ rooms but it has a nice log cabin style front (with moss still growing on the logs) which makes it look quite rustic.
The hotel has reasonably priced (for Scandinavia) bar with a rudimentary beer garden consisting of a few benches. This is a great place to watch the town’s seemingly tame wildlife; including hare, reindeer and a little red squirrel that spent some time actually inside the hotel. The food was pretty good (a lot of smoked or pickled stuff) and the most diverse breakfast buffet I’ve ever seen!
The rooms were very tidy but the heating was turned up far too high for my taste. Only one of the incredibly thick double glazed windows opened and that only opened a crack. The whole place was decorated in Lapland style bright cheerful colours with a fair amount of Sami art hanging in the corridors.
In all honesty if I went back to the Urho Kekkosen Kansallispuisto I’d take a tent and explore more of the park but I would certainly consider this hotel for the first and/or last day of my trip.

Holiday Club Saariselka Overview
The Holiday Club Saariselka is situated in the middle of the small village of Saariselka, surrounded by the Lappish wilderness.
The building is a single-storey light grey structure with a distinctive shallow pointed roof. The lobby is small, although it does stretch out towards a bar area with additional seating. The design is simple, with light green/rose/grey colours, decorated with traditional crafts and souvenirs from the area.
This is a very good modern hotel offering excellent leisure facilities included in the room rate.
Bedrooms are all medium-sized and in good condition. All have an extra sofa bed. The decor is modern and simple, with floral curtains, cream-coloured beds and light pine furnishings. Bathrooms are also in good condition. The hotel also offers a variety of apartments and chalet-style accommodations close by.
The restaurant is a semi-circular area behind the reception which has some views of the swimming pool and extensive spa facilities. Brown and green colours dominate, and plants are positioned everywhere to compliment the pool and to create a tropical spa environment.
