Woke up at 8.10am today. Our tour bus was meant to pick us up at 8am. So Livia ran downstairs and it turned out the hotel hadn't called for the bus yet so we had 10 more minutes. Phew. Got onto the bus and had to sit on the end of a sleeper seat while somebody else was sprawled out taking up…

Vietnam. This was without question the best trip of my life. Vietnam has everything, and in the best possible ways. Fantastic food, rivers, oceans, bays, mountains, forests, a rich history, the craziest driving on the planet, and all at the lowest prices. Then of course is the people: An amazing and resilient race with a lot to be proud of - especially the women, who pretty much run the country!

ANDREI - Our Footprint guidebook describes Hoi An having a "tranquil riverside setting" with "much of historical interest in the town", and having "friendly people".  Mostly true, I'd say.We rolled off the soft sleeper, Tourist Bus in the late morning outside Hoa Binh Hotel on Hai Ba Trung Roa…

My favourite place in Vietnam.

The centre of Hoi-An consists of lots of colonial style buildings often painted in warm colours and adorned with flowers and draping vines. There’s no billboard advertising or chain stores, and motorised vehicles are forbidden near the marketplace. This all adds to the ‘old world’ feel, which…

Arrival in a less frantic place

After consuming a few mojito's last night we both felt a bit rough this morning but a good breakfast aided our recovery.  Had the usual morning explore, calling at a fantastic bar/restaurant called 'Mango Room' for a drink.  It was a colourful and modern place and the menu was fantastic -…

We finally left Hoi An after five days and gaining a few pounds.  The food here was fantastic and we found an amazing restaurant that we ate at every day.  This was the main activity. We took another cooking class- the highlight was learning to make spring rolls, fresh rice paper and all…

More rain, and flooded streets

Three days after the toughest part of the tyhoon, most of the streets of Hoi An seem like nothing has happened to the untrained eye. The markets are back in full force, the tailors are measuring again, the shoeshops try to fit a shoe on everyone that passes by and the restaurants all…
