Hoa Mai Hotel Ha Tien Reviews
Hoa Mai Hotel Feb 01, 2011
For a one-night stay in Ha Tien I decided to stay at the Hoa Mai Hotel since it was just a few meters from the dock where the fast-boat boarded for Phu Quoc Island. (Note: the fast-boat now boards from its own dock at a new location directly across the river; a three kilometer, 20,000 VND ride by motorbike taxi). The hotel's location is still convenient, and easy to find, being the first building on the main street entering downtown from the riverside park and night market areas.
At $7 a night, the Hoa Mai seemed overpriced by Vietnam standards. My second floor room had few furnishings. There was no fridge or cable television. A table and stool were of plastic like those at street-side eateries and my window view to the Ha Tien River was half blocked by a downstairs addition. The building itself was clean but rather old and looked to have outlived its glamour of the French Colonial era. My room had twin beds and a good wall fan however, so did serve its purpose. But next time in Ha Tien I will select one of the many other newer hotels.
