The Heart of the French Quarter May 15, 2015
The French Market Inn is in a very convenient location in the French Quarter. It is made up of several wonderful historic buildings that have wonderful touches like exposed brick and a lovely courtyard with a little pool. It gives a great first impression. The Staff further that impression. They were very friendly and helpful. The room was charming with character and a large balcony overlooking Decatur Street (not very pretty, but that's not the hotel's fault). The beds were VERY comfortable. The problems with the place slowly manifested themselves over our stay. The first problem was that the elevators broke down often. My travel partner had recent back surgery so the stairs were an issue for her. But when the elevators did work we were scared to ride them! Another issue was the air-conditioning. We had limited control over the thermostat. As New Orleans can be quite hot and sultry, the room didn't always cool down properly. What's more is that for a couple of hours in the middle of the night the air seemed to shut off. We awoke at about 3AM each night in a sweat. Nothing we could do with the thermostat to turn it back on, but somehow it kicked back on around 4am. The final issue was the noise. Our balcony was on a busy street. We also found out it was near a freight rail line and early every morning we heard the train horns and traffic loud and clear. (Great after a night out in the Big Easy!) The glass for the door really should have some more sound-proofing, especially for the price we paid. Sleep was hard despite the great beds. The hotel has a lot of good qualities, but I'm not sure I would stay there again, or at least I would try to stay in another building facing the courtyard.

Central Location Oct 20, 2007
Historic French Market Inn was a great experience for us. Inside its a little confusing to find your room, and the staff failed to give us good directions how to get there. But it has a great historic feel. The courtyards inside the hotel are beautiful and is a great place to relax and talk with friend and other travelers. It was in a central location so we were able to walk anywhere within the French Quarter that we wanted to get to so we never needed our car.

It is a little more pricy but if you get a group like we did (a group of 4 in a 2 bedroom) it is definately more affordable and can help you have a good experience so everyone can walk home from bourbon street :)

I was impressed with this hotel. Located in the heart of the French Quarter and a view of the Mississippi River, it was within walking distance to everywhere I wanted to go while in New Orleans. The only downfall to my stay was the remodeling work that was being done. The noise was kept to a minimum but had to make my way around scaffolding in the courtyards. It was built in 1722 and the hotel consists of several intertwining buildings. If you want a feel of the old New Orleans, this is the place to stay. It is famous for the weddings that take place in the courtyard. My room was $71 a night which is an incredible price for a hotel room in the French Quarter.
