WHS Czech Rep: Historic Centre of Prague Jan 17, 2017
I visited Prague in 2015 and knew straight away I would love it there. Prague's Historic Centre is not exactly top secret; the city attracts hordes of tourists, especially during the summer months.

The Charles Bridge which crosses the Vltava River in Prague is an unmissable stop on any tour of Prague. There are always street performers and vendors on the bridge selling their merchandise and the views of the city from the bridge are amazing.

While in Prague, you will also want to check out Prague Castle. It's worth a walk uphill to see the tremendous architecture that you can explore with the castle entrance ticket. The highlights for me were the imposing St Vitus's Cathedral, the Royal Palace and the old shops and houses on Golden Lane. You should allocate the best part of a day to see everything the castle has to offer.

Another gem in the Historic Centre of Prague is the Old Town Square where you can see the 600 year old Astronomical Clock as well as the Church of Our Lady Before Tyn in all its Gothic grandeur. I ventured down to the Old Town Square after dark and the atmosphere is wonderful as the church is lit up beautifully and the square is buzzing with life due to all the cafes and restaurants in the area.

Jo, in winter I bet it is stunning. Wouldn't fancy all the walking in the snow though!

Very beautiful place and easy to navigate on foot and by public transport. I'd love to return there. :)

Christmas markets in the snow Apr 29, 2011
Stunningly beautiful city, drank mulled wine in the Christmas markets, climbed up the tower, went across Charles Bridge, did the tour of Prague Castle, had a general wonder around. Stumbled across a Museum of Medieval Torture Instruments and an art gallery with Salvador Dalhi picture, lots places to eat.

Prague is one of the worlds great historical cities. Be mindful of the pick-pockets but try to spend 2 days exploring.

Unesco World Heritage Site Oct 15, 2008
I first visited Prague when I was 15, on an exchange project. It's quite possible that's where I was first bitten by the travel bug.

The historic centre of Prague can be overrun with tourists, but there are times and places to get away from them. Last time I arrived on an overnight bus, and not being able to check into my hostel before noon gave me the opportunity to walk across Charles Bridges around sunrise, when it was still quiet. Kampa island, just off the bridge, is like an oasis away from the crowds.

And of course the tourists are there for a reason. Prague is truly one of the most beautiful cities in Europe.

Last time I really wanted to get out of there after two days though, to explore less touristy parts of the Czech Republic.
