 Unesco World Heritage Site Oct 08, 2007
I first visited Prague when I was 15, on an exchange project. It's quite possible that's where I was first bitten by the travel bug.
The historic centre of Prague can be overrun with tourists, but there are times and places to get away from them. Last time I arrived on an overnight bus, and not being able to check into my hostel before noon gave me the opportunity to walk across Charles Bridges around sunrise, when it was still quiet. Kampa island, just off the bridge, is like an oasis away from the crowds. And of course the tourists are there for a reason. Prague is truly one of the most beautiful cities in Europe. Last time I really wanted to get out of there after two days though, to explore less touristy parts of the Czech Republic.
