Walking along the historic colonical center of Popayan Oct 25, 2009
Popayan is a colonial city also know as "the white city". It's architecture is very nice and if you are in town you should walk along its streets and admire its old and refurbished buildings. Popayan is in a sismic area, so the churches suffered and were rebuilt but according the old drawings.

The highlights include:

-Parque Caldas: main square / park, with its tall trees and locals hanging out there.

-Cathedral: in front of Parque Caldas, it's the youngest church in the center.

-San Francisco Church: 2 blocks away from Parque Caldas, it's the largest colonial church and the prettiest, looks nicer at night.

Popayan is a deep Catholic city, so no surprise to find many churches for such a small city. Actually I was told the biggest event here is Easter.

Walking along the center during the day is lovely. It's very nice to admire the white buildings, but the view at night is breathtaking - maybe even better - plus it's very quiet and safe.
