Trying to fool the website

This is me cheating. Go to entry 1 for the real story or read on if you want to know why.Since this is a new blog, I want people to read it when they come to my page. Makes sense right? However, this website only displays three blogs on my front page - not in the order that you post them, but in chronological order according to the dates traveled. As this tale takes place in the winter of 2005, it's automatically sent to the back of the line.So this is me sticking in a 2007 entry to trick the...

It's beautiful in a haunting way. The trees next to the A-bomb dome (the building which survived the nuclear bomb) were bare, adding to the somber mood for this place where 140,000 people (not all Japanese!) have died on August 6 and until the end of 1945. I have not felt particularly sorry for the Japanese because they did start the war, and invaded China and caused my parents great pain during the 8 years of war in China (which was much longer than the rest of the world's WWII). But at a no...

Tomokos College and Onomichi
posted by:

Tomoko's mom drove us for about an hour to Mihara, where Tomoko lives and goes to school. We visited her school, Hiroshima Prefecture College. It was summer break so there was not many people there, but it was a very big school. Then we walked to Tomoko's apartment which is fairly closeby. It is bigger than her sisters in Osaka, but still fairly small. But its very cute, I really liked it. We looked at some pictures and then left to have lunch at Ikkyu, the sushi restaurant where Tomoko ...

Andrea and I got on a Bullet Train and took a one hour ride to Hiroshima to see the Atomic Bomb Memorial area. We were told we would need two hours in the area and we found that we wish we had had more time. I have no idea how to describe what I saw but I can try.

Quick stop in Hiroshima

Jumping back on the Skinkansen heading to Kyoto from Fukuoka you have to pass through Hiroshima so it made sense to stop off and visit the Peace Museum and Atom Bomb Dome. We got to the station around 9 and knew we only had a few hours, so decided to focus on the Museum etc., and pass over the city itself. Heading for the dome on the excellent tram system we had no idea what to expect and as soon as you get off the tram you are confronted with the iconic image of the shattered dome building....

By this point I was choosing my daytrips by train schedule and whim.  I had meant to pour over my Japan guide while in China and maximize my sightseeing but of course there were better things to do at the time.  Decided to go to Miyajima as it is considered one of the three most beautiful spots in Japan, and with so much to choose from such a distinction can't be taken lightly.  The goal for Miyajima is to visit while the tide is in--the water runs under the entire Itsukushima ...

Exchange Semester in Japan - 2004: Miyajima Travel Photos
posted by:

When I thought about choosing a place where I could spend my exchange semester, I knew that I would love to do it either in South America or Japan. Considering both possibilities Japan suddenly won and I spent there one of the best times of my entire life. I just love that country, its history and customs. It's so mysterious and it's just a question if you dare to make the attempt to discover its secrets.

First of all, I would like to talk about the preparation done in little time. I purchased the touring bike, two side bags for rear tire, gloves, helmet, and sleeping bag.  As my job kept me so busy that I had not had time to buy them until the last minute, which annoyed me. I wish I had time for training but no time and then I started the cycle trip when I got my vacation after the hec-tic days. I filled up the side bags with stuffs like clothings and sent to t...

One of the most three beautiful scenery in Japan

There are three most beautiful scenery in Japan. One is Amanohashidate in Kyoto, Matsushima in Miyagim, and Miyajima in Hiroshima. Here I come, Miyajima. It was kind a dissapointed because there were so many toursits. I had exactly the same experience when I first visited Matsushima. But still worth to see them once in a life. Miyajima is an lasland bigger than I expected. I just walked around temples which locates on the side to the main land. Itsukushima temple was built on a shor...

I wasn’t really sure how I would like this city. After all, my countrymen literally obliterated it in WWII and I wasn’t sure how the people here felt about Americans. The Japanese people we met were very nice and helpful. They are proud of their city and how they have rebuilt it. They seem to have a strong spirit and recognize that sharing their experience might keep the world a little safer.
