I’m
cheating a bit because the itinerary we’ve been following is from our last trip
in 2005. This was the first time we
didn’t get over to Hawaii, “the Big Island” – so named because as all of the
other Hawaiian Islands are eroding away into never-never land, Hawaii continues
to grow (it is actually bigger than all the other islands combined). There are many facets to the Big Island :
Kona is a tourist mecca; you can see snow in Hawaii
by visiting the splendid M...

I spent three months in Hawaii while I "lived" there. Hawaii was my home while I travelled in South East Asia. My sister lives there.

Hilo is awsome it rains alot but its alot of fun to poke around and find some awsome views. The hot ponds are amaizing just to sit and and watch the stars..iv'e never seen so many stars as I did in hilo and all the stars were uspside down which seemed crazy to me. The frogs chirp too..its annoying at first but later you find it is such a soothing sound.

We pretty much saw what we wanted to see in the Volcano NP and since Hilo was just about a half hour drive we decided to go check it out plus ck out some waterfalls.
On the outskirts of Hilo we saw a Macadamian nut farm and processing plant that said tours on it so we pulled in. Saw a lot of trees but the processing plant was closed .The plant did have a store that was open so we went in and bought some at a very good(at least that is what Ann told me) so we were glad we s...

Okay... now ALL of the New Zealand pix have been uploaded and captioned. It took awhile, but check all of last week now. We're currently in Kahului on Maui, ready for our last day of vacation. We spent the whole day on the Big Island, though, at Volcanos National Park. We'll soon add pictures and descriptions of Fiji and our first two days here in Hawaii. Bear with us.Best,Chris

Not a bad flight into Hilo airport, via Honolulu. Seems like I can now easily deal with five hour flights not being able to sleep.Taxi driver from Hilo airport was interesting and offered me his services as a guide to the island, not that I took him up on the offer. As it was night time when I arrived - you could hear all the frogs singing. Apparently the Cocqui frogs are a really big problem on the island: http://www.thehawaiichannel.com/news/1039588/detail.htmlHotel was the Hilo Hawaiin on ...

6:30 amI woke up quite early this morning, so I decided to head down to the famous Hilo Farmer’s Market before it became too crowded, which I later learned is almost impossible. I arrived around 7:30 am and began my forage. This market was so unbelievable! At first glance, I was honestly unimpressed. It is much smaller than the Santa Monica Farmer’s Market and seemed to be less diverse. But, when I remembered I was in HAWAII, the wonderful joys of this event overtook me. There were ...

Happy Fourth of July! Today we started off by going to Rainbow Falls. Unfortunately it was cloudy and a bit drizzly so there were no rainbows :( but it was a nice waterfall nonetheless. The interesting part of the park was not really the waterfall, but the HUGE banyan tree that was there. I mean this was the freakin biggest tree I've ever seen. Then we went to Nani Mau Botanical Garden, but to be honest it wasn't all the impressive. But then after you've seen Kew Gardens, nothing can compare!...

I cannot believe the day has finally come! So listen, I get off work at 5:30 in the morning and commute for 2 hours back home (thats right, I work at night and commute!). I get home thinking I have enough time for my flight which I did in theory. The funny thing is, I still had to do some laundry and dye my hair because you know I hate being held down by the man. My heart began to race as I realized I have about three hours to get my butt in gear before my flight leave...
