Hi-Quebec Auberge Internationale de Quebec Quebec City Reviews

A great hostel in a great location Mar 29, 2014
The HI-Quebec: Auberge Internationale de Quebec is part of the Hostelling International group of hostels in Quebec City, located in the heart of Old Town. And a place that is very much, worth staying at.

It can be tricky getting there from the Gare du Palais, the city’s bus and train station. Better to ask for directions from the ticket agents, who will give you a map, as I would have a hard time trying to put them here, as it is not as straightforward. The main thing is get to rue-St-Jean, which is the main street of Old Town. The hostel is located on a hill on a side street, and there is an outside sign, making it easier to find.

The first good thing about this one, is the 24 hours reception. Once again, if arriving late into town, no worries of being locked out. The staff is very helpful, answering any questions you may have.

You will be given a key card, which will not only access the room, but also access to getting to the dorm rooms. Once in the hallway, it feels more like a hotel than a hostel.

The rooms are very nice, and each bed has their own reading lamp. So if someone is already sleeping in the room, the reading light can be a way to find your way around, without having to turn on the main lights, and disturb the other people.

The bathrooms are also nice. Located down the hall, there are multiple bathrooms, and a few shower rooms. They are clean, and the showers basically are their own stalls, which you can lock.

There are internet computers, but you have to purchase some time. I think I paid about $5 for 1 hour. The internet is not slow, and has USB ports, to plug into, in case you want to upload photos on TravBuddy. Plus the place does have a printer, which you have to pay for, but useful if you have to print out a ticket, as there are no internet cafes that I know of, in Quebec City. Also, there is some Super Nintendo, if anyone want to play some old video games in the lounge.

And the location just can’t be beat, as it is a very short walk to the main attractions and the Chateau Frontenac. A nice area in the Old Quebec area.

If there was any downside, it is the fact that breakfast is not included. You have to pay money, which I think, was overpriced.

Overall, I think this is a great hostel, and definitely the place to stay at in Quebec City.

[NOTE – Unfortunately, I lost most of the hostel photos, so only 2 on this review. If I get a chance to return again, I will definitely include more.]

The HI in Quebec City is a quite big hostel. If you're looking for your room make sure you don't get lost. :) All kind of people are staying here, families, schoolkids, young travellers and not anymore that young travellers.

There are at least four floors and no elevator. There are a couple of shower cabins on every floor. I never had to wait for taking a shower.

The rooms are ok, nothing special. There are personal boxes for everyone where you can put in your valuables but you have to bring your own lock.

They didn't provide any towels.

Breakfast is included and consists of toast, bagels, muffins, eggs, apples, oranges and beverage. It's not a big variety but it's enough to start a day.

The hostel offers activities every day. I did the old town walk which was interesting and it could have lasted a bit longer. I'm always keen on learning new things about a city specially the ones you don't find in every travel guide.

Then I joined the barbecue the last evening. Well, I wouldn't call that a barbecue. You just get a simple hot dog with nothing else than one saussage and a bread. But it's very cheap and you get a good offer together with a beer.

When I checked out I found out, they don't have a room where you can leave your luggage. You have to pay 2$ for a locker.
