Worth a look for chocolate lovers, and the ride is fun Jul 04, 2016
Located next to Hersheypark, Hershey’s Chocolate World is basically a gift shop with some attractions. If interested in only visiting this place and NOT Hersheypark, then make sure you go to the correct parking lot, as parking for the first 3 hours is free. After that, it does cost some money, though not as much as the Hersheypark lot. This place and Hersheypark are 2 separate places.

Entering the Hershey’s Chocolate World building is free in itself. But some of the attractions inside are not! When I visited, I would only go for the one attraction that is free.

And that is Hershey’s Chocolate Tour, which is a ride that takes you through the process of making Hershey chocolate. There is an order of different, moving displays that give an idea of how each stage of the process is done. An interesting ride, and more of a visual aid for the chocolate-making process, that you may not quite get at the Hershey Story museum. Worth going on at least once, as it is free! And at the end of the ride, you do get a free, small Hershey bar.

Other attractions include the 4D Chocolate Mystery, Chocolate Tasting Experience and Create Your Own Candy Bar. While the last 2 sound very interesting, the 4 D show may be only worth it for those who has kids, as I did see the show on YouTube. Still, all of which, charge admission, which was enough reason for me to skip, as they are basically major tourist traps.

The gift shop has a nice variety of candy, which are almost always fresh off the factory. I would say, a lot more fresher than at the supermarket, as you can definitely feel the difference when tasting it. As a chocolate-lover myself, this makes visiting this place very much worth it. Or maybe it is just me. Plus there is a café and food court, so you can definitely eat a meal there as well.

So if you are a chocolate lover, stopping by this place is definitely worth it, mainly for the fresh chocolate on sale and the ride. While not really a must-visit by itself, it does add to the visit to Hersheypark, and a good place to cool off during those hot summer days.

Much different from the old tour Oct 16, 2009
Free entertainment - hop on the ride and get a lesson on how chocolate is made.

I grew up near Hershey and the old tour used to go through the real factory. This new tour is a simulation, complete with the smell of chocolate.

Many know that Hershey is named after Milton Hershey. What many don't know is that he founded a school for orphans (boys only at the time) because he and his wife couldn't have children. The kids were housed in farm dormitories. My grandparents used to run one of them. My grandmother was in charge of cooking the meal and all the cleaning (including laundry)...a lot of work for a dorm that housed at least a dozen boys! My grandfather was in charge of the farm itself and the boys had to do chores around the farm...something that probably doesn't happen nowadays.

Of all the things to do in Hershey. I think the free chocolate tour was my favorite. To begin it was FREE, there was air conditioning, no lines and we got chocolate at the end. Second favorite was the ride up in the kissing tower....the view of Hershey was beautiful.
