Heron's Cove, Donegal's best kept secret... wow for the food and service Nov 09, 2008

We had a short break touring the north west of Donegal, looking at the local Donegal Democrat newspaper we saw and excellent restaurant review for Heron’s Cove. We called and they had one room left and booked us into the restaurant for dinner. We arrive on a cold and very wet evening to a great warm and welcoming reception, the rooms was cosy, not a big room but enough for what was a two-night stay. The bar area was lit with candles and soft jazz music played, the restaurant was beautiful, al black and cream and very luxurious… the food what so good, best we have eaten in a long time without any of the usual pompousness you normally get with fine dining!

I had a symphony of local fish and seafood crepe with a chocolate and caramel cheesecake… wow…

If you are in Donegal, go there… you will not be disappointed… in fact in Ireland go to herons cove and Donegal… the best county we have been to date.

We have just returned from a weekend at the Herons Cove, Rossnowlagh. The hotel is magnificent and we have never experienced such friendly service before. Everyone was so lovely that it was hard to drag ourselves away; we couldn't wait to get back to the peace and tranquillity of the hotel.

We were just expecting the normal hotel breakfast, but no breakfast is a lovely traditional irish, with homemade breads and scones. The Restaurant was great. It is very smart and we dined there for our daughter's birthday and the chef even wrote her name on the plate! Overall I would say this is probably one of the best hotel we have ever stayed in Ireland and I am extremely fussy! Perhaps not the most convenient if all you want is nightlife, but if you want to mix a little luxury with peace and quiet then this is an absolute must. Good Visit on the Dinner & Duvet Package, a good value break in donegal
