Heron Island Vacation Guide
Heron Island is a coral cay located in the Great Barrier Reef, Queensland, Australia, and 539 km north of the state capital Brisbane. The only place to stay on the island is at Heron Island Resort, which accommodates up to 200 guests. The rest of the island is part of Capricornia Cays National Park. The island has nesting habitats for thousands of seabirds, including Wedge-tailed Shearwaters, White-capped Noddies, Buff-banded Rails, Eastern Reef Egrets and Silvereyes. The island is also a major Green and Loggerhead turtle nesting site, and the reef around the island supports 900 different species of fish.
The typical way to get to Heron Islands is to fly into Gladstone and then get either a ferry or helicopter transfer to the island.
