Nice little museum in Amsterdam Nov 24, 2008
Most people think about St. Petersburg when they hear about the Hermitage museum but there a Hermitage museum in Amsterdam as well. It's actually a dependance of the museum in Russia. That museum has so many artworks that only 7% of them can be shown in St. Petersburg. For that reason the museum decided to make temporary exhibitions of the other 93% and they are shown in the Hermitage in Amsterdam. It's a small museum with only 6 rooms so don't think you can compare it with the museum in St. Petersburg. This time the theme were the art of the German Friedrich and his followers. I didn't like all of these works but i did like the way that the museum tries to show more of the 7% the posess. I hope i'll like the next exhibition better but i will definately go back here again.

The Hermitage is the world famous museum of St Petersburg. because of the size of its collection, it can't show everything at once, so it has opened a branch in Amsterdam on the Herengraacht.

The exhibition changes, and was about Art Deco when I was there. The collection was stunning and well displayed, and there were informative signs in both Dutch and English. The building is pleasant, there is a shop and a café, and the staff seemed friendly. The exhibition space itself is quite small.

I enjoyed my trip, and am glad i went. I think it is definately worth going if you had a museumkaart or amsterdam card, although I'm not sure I'd be as happy to pay admission for this exhibition on its own.
