Herceg Novi Overview

Herceg Novi is a town on the coast of Montenegro, at the entrance to the Bay of Kotor and close to the border with Croatia.
Through its turbulent past Herceg Novi was conquered by Turks, Spaniards, Venice, Austria, Russia, France. It became part of Montenegro in 1813, but for a very short time before it was overtaken by Austro-Hungarian empire, and later during World War II town was occupied by Italian and German forces.

As remnants of history Hergec Novi is left with beautiful old town, few fortresses like Spanish fortress, Kanli Tower, Forte Mare, the Citadel.

Now it's a major tourist destinations, well known not just for its fortresses, but for Igalo spa and wellness center, long seaside promenade and concrete city beach and many other smaller beaches reachable only by boat.

Town hosts many festivals all year round, musical, theater, and the most popular Mimosa Festival in February. This festival celebrates flowers, and specially yellow mimosa flower which abundantly blossoms during winter in this region.

Herceg Novi is well connected with the rest of Montenegro coast as well as the capital city Podgorica. There are frequent buses to Serbia and few daily departures to Dubrovnik in Croatia.
