Great bar to hang Sep 04, 2008
I loved this place...mostly because we had it to ourselves most nights. My husband and I preferred hanging here with Alex and Wilbur...Who became our friends after one night! They were super friendly..and much cooler to hang with than any of the other places teeming with tourists! Sandy floor...And neat bench style seats located at bar...They played any music we requested...and kept the drinks coming...I love it when the staff drinks with you!!!

At first glance, this place looks pretty touristy and lame. First of all, it's called "Herbal Tribe". I mean, why don't you just put up a sign that says, "Stoned college kids, eat and drink here!"? Plus, they have a glossy, limited menu with lots of expensive American-taste options, and fresh juice that's a good dollar more expensive than other places.
So why am I giving this place such a good review? Because they have the most awesome seafood soup ever. EVER. It's pricey compared to other places in town, but it's sooo worth it. My friend went on a seafood soup streak, so we witnessed several variations of the dish throughout town, and this place was definitely the best. The stew was definitely made from seafood, instead of throwing lobster chunks into an unknown broth like other places did. It came stocked with all kinds of seafood -- fish, lobster, plump shrimp, veggies and even a whole crab claw. Part of the Central America Death Tour '07 travel blog |

Our last day full day in Central America was spent doing nothing -- no buses, no traveling, no searching, no activities, no sites -- nothing but eating, walking around and taking a dip in the ocean. Yes, all this rest made me a little uncomfort…Herbal Tribe, a restaurant with a stupid name, not-too-cheap prices and limited menu, but a seafood soup that is stacked with giant chunks of super fresh fish, lobster and crab. Today we ventured over to Glenda's for breakfast as the cozy restaurant was highly recommended for their prized cinnamon rolls. Sadly we found the place was closed on Sundays so we just ate at the Sand Box instead. The Sand Box is a cute bar and res…Herbal Tribe for lunch. More lobster! I tried their seafood soup - coconut milk base with a lot of fresh lobster meat, shrimp, and other seafood. Jon chose the lobster burger with fries. Both entree choices were delicious and less than $10 US each. It feel… Day 8: Caye Caulker |
