Close to the Bund but the glory days are long gone. Jun 12, 2011
If you don't plan to spend much time in the hotel and only want to shower and sleep this is the hotel for you. It is very close to the Bund and the train station. Some of the features are very attractive such as the exterior elevators and the roof top bar.

The glory days of this hotel are behind it. Wallpaper was peeling everywhere, there were signs of dampness, the AC sounded like a train and the bedroom furniture was basic. Some of the carpets were just dirty.

I wouldn't bring kids to this hotel. During the day the hawkers are more friendly and helpful than the staff but unfortunately at night they are replaced by pimps and pro's and you have to run the gauntlet getting in the door. Security on the front desk and in reception evaporates after midnight.

Speaking of midnight, the Midnight bar on the roof top closes at 12.30 or so, so don't plan to be there for the night. Getting a late drink is a serious effort. The food isn't anything special either.

The pool was OK, but the changing room was dirty and uncomfortable. Here again the staff weren't helpful.

Having said all of this, I would stay here again purely because of its proximity to the Bund. However if you are going to spend more time in the hotel you won't get value here and should find somewhere else.

Hengsheng peninsula hotel is a luxury hotel, close in the heart of shanghai(nanjing road).only 10 minutes far away -by walking- from the famous nanjing road(shopping, restaurants, cafe etc)....

hotel has externals elevators and an spectacular roof garden-bar with fantastic view at the skybuildings of the city....

the only disadvantage is that the stuff in reception, isn"t well trained at english language.

In planning my trip to Shanghai I always have a partner in Hotels.com or octopustravel.com, both these pages have helped me finding accommodation at fair rates. I surfed around and found the prices in Shanghai higher than in Beijing. I chose Hengsheng Peninsula International Hotel because it was situated very close to The Bund - and the price was fair for a Deluxe-suite appr. 55€ a night and I did not regret that.

The hotel had seen its best days - I would say that it was on it´s way down. Overall it still was an ok hotel - but the cleaning could have been better - especially at the pool area. Afterwards I kind of regretted that I used it - my ear was irritated for a week. The room was ok - and the bathroom as well.

In the hotel there were a couple of restaurants, we tried one of them it was just over average. The hotel have one side with view over The Bund - take it if you are gonna hang out in the window. We didn´t - we went to The Bund in stead:D - No today I would have taken the view, it would have been nice looking at the Pudong skyline before jumping to bed and the price was not much more.

The hotel was not known that well by cab drivers - so remember to take a hotel card in the hall to show the drivers when you wanna go home to the hotel.
This pool was not really clean
