Hemingway Étterem Budapest Reviews
Dining at the bottomless lake Aug 05, 2010
For the lunch my colleagues take me to the Hemingway restaurant.
The place is hidden in a park, at the end of a dead-end street.
The parking place is much to small, or you can better say the place is popular -though it is not crowded.
We find ourself an outside table with a view over the bottomless lake. (my western belief in bottomless is somewhat flawed, but I think it is an indication that the lake is very deep, or that there is a well feeding it, so it can never be emptied)
The card (étlap) is extensive, all dishes are translated at least in English.
I want to go for a refreshing Lime Freeze, and my colleagues follow. This is a nice make-up for a non-alcoholic refreshment, it might even beat beer on hot days!
My starter was gulyas (goulash) spicy soup with paprika and meat. I think it tastes a bit like Hungary: hot, spicy, nutricious, satisfying, leaving it's taste and the longing for more - even when you have had enough!
My main dish was a salami pizza, made well!, Thin bottom, dry rim, good filling, leaving no room for supper.
Overall: good location, good staff, good food, well hidden (I don't know how I would be able to find it) but I would enter when I stumbled over it again.
