Helsinki Cathedral Feb 14, 2012
One of the ultimate musts to see in Helsinki is the Helsinki Cathedral! It is located in the centre of the city, and it is one of the most beautiful buildings in Helsinki. The church is an Evangelical Lutheran cathedral.

In the front of the church is the Senate Square with the statue of Emperor Alexander II of Russia. The church was built at a time when Finland still belonged to Russia, and completed in 1852.

Exhibitions and concerts are often arranged at the Senate Square. One of the more colourful exhibitions that I remember was the United Buddy Bears in summer 2010. The 140 bears represented as many countries recognised by the United Nations.

Helsinki Cathedral is the most famous landmark in Helsinki. It's location on the top of the stairs on the senate square gives a dramatic feeling to it and it can be seen from far away. It is very easy to locate and is just next to the market square and other popular tourist spots. The stairs of the Cathedral are very popular location for locals to sit and hang out with friends, so in summer they might be very crowded

If you go there, I'd recommend visiting inside the cathedral too (I saw a big tourist group that just took their photo outside and never went in). The entrance might be a bit hard to find as you can't enter from the front. Just go to the left side of the building and there's a door. Entering the cathedral is free. The cathedral is quite beautiful from inside, but in my opinion most of the beauty is outside. Unfortunately you aren't allowed to enter the organ loft. In summertime there is café open in the crypt.

I suppose this is a must in Helsinki. It doesn't take too much time to get your photos and walk around the first floor, so you don't have to reserve much time. I wouldn't say it's worth a visit by itself, but because it's so close to other locations to visit, I'd still recommend it while on the way to those other locations.

You have to go here , its the most famous landmark of Helsinki and its not hard to see why. Its free to go inside and sometimes its a small concert with a man playing the pipe-organ. The acoustics is GREAT and for people that love music its really worth going to.

When i was there the performance inside the cathedral at 12.00. Look for signs at the entrance
