Helping Hands - Cooking with Poo Bangkok Reviews
Thai Cooking Class in Klong Toey Slum Mar 18, 2011
The Helping Hands - Cooking with Poo cooking school in the Klong Toey Slum in Bangkok was one of our favorite experiences while visiting Thailand. For a flat fee of $1000 baht per person, we were picked up from the Emporium Suites and taken to the Klong Toey market first for a guided tour of all the market has to offer. We had been to some other open markets around Thailand - but nothing like this one before! There was amazing things to see from live frogs and other reptile for sale to enormous mounds of curry paste and flower displays. After our tour of the market, we went to the Klong Toey slum to the kitchen of Khun Poo where she showed us how to make traditional Thai fried rice & chicken, Shrimp Pad Thai, Thai mixed jelly, and our favorite; Green Papaya salad. We each got to make our own dishes and enjoy them too.
Khun Poo was the sweetest and kindest chef we've ever had the chance to cook beside. Her cooking class is part of the Helping Hands organization which works with Klong Toey slum neighbors to create business opportunities to help the community. The entire experience was amazing and we would reccommend it a thousand times.
