Naama Bay and Luxor Aug 07, 2009
First things First, If you visit Sharm make sure you get the Visa when you get off the plane, they cost about £10, and are near impossible to get once you have left the airport. You WILL need this if planning on going to Cairo, Luxor or even just going to Ras Mohamed on a Diving Trip. If you want to go diving or learn to Dive I would recomend Red Sea Diving College in Na'ama Bay.
There are a number of Pubs, Bars and Night Clubs. The Night Clubs tend to be fairly dead during the week, Pacha has Ministry of Sound Nights every Friday, Saturday and Sunday, this is the best time to go. Little Budha is the same. Most people stick to the bars during the week, I would Suggest the Tavern and the Camel Bars. If your allergic to Peanuts, stay away from the Camel Bar, Peanut fights happen almost every night. Other than that there is an abundance of Shisha bars, check the price before buying, you might be able to haggle a little, and make sure you ask for the bill at the end, don't just accept a price they tell you, they will try to take the piss. Expect it to be Hot, I went In August and it's around 36 - 42 degrees most days, it got to 52 degrees in Luxor. This is too hot for me but would go again between Oct - May. If you like hot, then enjoy. The day trip to Luxor was really Good, it cost £140. Make sure you book this with a reputable source. They will organise the flights etc, the day consists of a guided Tour of The Valley of the Kings, two Temples, a boat trip across the Nile, and meal in a hotel in Luxor. I went to Some Stone Museum, and some Perfume store thing with my tour. If a local approaches you and asks if you would like Him to take your Picture, refuse, even if it's a Policeman, chances are they won't give the Camera back unless you pay them. If you are going there, then make it soon, I personally think it's going to become the next Ibiza in the next 5 to 10 years.

Typical tourist trap Feb 04, 2009
In April 2008 me and my boyfriend went to Sharm el Sheikh for a holiday. After twe first week of relaxing, snorkeling and doing nothing we decided to go on an excursion to the dessert to watch the stars. After having a miserable dinner at "the local bedoein people" (they were more likely to be local theatre players), we went into the dessert. There were three telescopes lined up and they told us a short story about the constellations in the sky. After that we could take a look through the telescope and for sure that what we saw was anything but real. It must have been some kind of projected image, because the moon for examle was full when you saw it through the telescope, but with the naked eye it surely was not like that. And when we asked if they could move the telescope a little to another star that wasn't possible ofcourse.
There were other tourists from Holland there and we talked about it and they had the same feeling that they were being deceived. So you have to pay 40 euro for this, beware of this excursion when offered to you! |
