Helman Tor, a beautiful view point and quiet place Aug 11, 2010
This is a neolithic living place, that consists of a stone ring and some huge boulders stacked on top of each other. Its located on a small hill or tor, which is surrounded by a moor.

It located along the long-distance walking path "Saint's Way" that leads across Cornwall, and thus walking there is the best way to get there.

I got there during my internship in Lanlivery and it was always a mystery where the place is, since its hard to find on any maps. It was said you can only go there if you know where it is.

From Lanlivery you walk along the Saint's Way till there is farm before a sharp bend and there goes a tractor road up the hill, you walk straight ahead and the path gets smaller between two walls and the shrubbery gets dense and you feel lost. After two kilometres you come to an orchard and suddenly the sky opens again and reveals the tor.

It was almost a mystical moment to me, as was the tor itself, which allows a view to the surrounding country, down to the sea near Par on one side and to Bodmin on the other side.

The Place itself is beautiful too, and great for a picnic, even though its a bit windy, but you can hide behind the stones or in the little cave.
