The high speed ferries are a another great way to hop from island to island. We took the ferry from Santorini to Athens (Piraeus) and we were back on the main land in just a few quick hours. The boats are quite large but the seating is comfortable. We spent the extra 20 euros to travel in first class (based on a recommendation) which was quite comfortable although we were assigned seats across from each other rather than next to each other. The food sold at the bar was quite poor...if you skipped lunch, it would be worth bringing something with you to snack on.
