delicious home cooked food Nov 22, 2008
The idea for this café came from a retired English woman who wanted to raise awareness of the plight of Andean women and children. All profits go to local women and children’s programs.
The café serves mainly whole and homemade foods with several vegetarian options. The menu has an English flair to it with several types of sandwiches and traditional English meals but also has local foods. I ordered the vegetarian “menu” which was a veggie filled pasty, mashed potatoes and steamed vegetables. The meal also came with a bowl of vegetable soup, beverage, and ½ a brownie. The non-vegetarian menu came with quinoa soup, chicken and rice and a “wicked” dessert. All our food was really good. The café has several small tables inside and a few tables outside over looking the main square. The menu is in English or Spanish and Sonia speaks both languages (she was even our waitress!). All food items are supposedly washed in purified water and all profits go to charities. The café also employs local villagers. *warning* I did get sick after eating here - not sure if it was from the food here or something else, but the timing seems to indicate it was from here. I was the only one of our group that did get sick after eating here, but also the only one that got the vegetarian menu. Just a word of warning. Part of the Amigas Bonita do Peru travel blog |
