A Winters walk in Cheshire Mar 03, 2014
On waking very early one Sunday morning in March 2013 I decide after looking outside at the sunny but winter crisp day, I would put on my walking shoes take to the Cheshire countryside of England, starting in the Village of Hawk Green, that is located just 15 minutes drive away from my home town of Stockport or 40 minutes from Manchester Airport, England. from this small Village of Hawk Green, you can start to walk the pathways and trails through the hills and valleys that seemingly give you endless views, which includ distant ones of my town and on a very clear day the city of Manchester and on the ridge top you can watch the Aeroplanes making their final approach to the airport. Walking amongst the hills lay cattle/sheep farms, horse riding schools, Churches, Public Houses and all the other amenities that support town and village life.

Hawk Green has glimpses of a past history, one of which was the cotton industry, which Stockport and the surrounding areas were main contributors, this being so, called for better transport...because the roads of the time could not support the big volumes that were being produced from this country’s industrial revolution, the outcome was the contruction of the inland canal waterway system. Here in Hawk Green the old Canal system still remains, it served its part throughout this era, the canal system linked up all around the United Kingdom.

Today these canal routes are mainly used for holiday tours, to use them you will need to be hiring a Narrow boat, these are equipped with beds and all the other basic essentials. It's a slow idyllic way to travel but with many different places to visit, view and admire this is a good and relaxing way. This canal waterway is part of the 'Cheshire Ring' which offers many miles/kilometers of pleasurable boating hours...I've never sailed any of the canals myself, but I know many people who have, boat hire for a week varies with the size of boat required, but a basic start price is about £450 upwards. Another point of interest is that should you sail this route...it will take you into Manchester and passed the Old Trafford football ground, home of M.U.F.C...there are so many more interesting places to see along this route and finding somewhere to eat and drink is no problem, because alongside the contrustion of the canals also grew the public house trade, so you can dine in the places those old boatman once used.
