Haw Pha Kaeo Vientiane Reviews
Interesting history of the Emerald Buddha Sep 29, 2009
I was told that the Lao people maintain this temple for the "rightful return of their revered icon," the Emerald Buddha. Indeed, the Emerald Buddha was taken away from Vientiane by the Siamese army in 1779, and it remains in Bangkok to this day.
However, there is much controversy around this subject, and the Emerald Buddha has a long history of traveling through many countries and kingdoms.
Regardless, this temple/museum is well worth a stop for its many Buddhist antiquities and beautiful gardens.
