Havreholm Castle

This hotel is an old mansion which is converted to a hotel with limited capacity. The hotel is kept in the classic small castle way. The hotel is usually used for weddings and corporate events. Havreholm Slot is situated in the wonderful Nordsjaelland, just south of Hornbaek Beach, which again is only 40 minutes drive from Copenhagen and 10 minutes from Helsingoer.

The rooms are nice and different; they are far away from what you get at an ordinary hotel. Next to the hotel you also have access to a golf course with is very nice. I have had a couple of nice stays here and their restaurant is very good for breakfast, lunch or dinner.I have been there a couple of times and I have been very satisfied every time.

Havreholm Hall was built in 1872 by Valdemar Culmsee, a paper manufacturer, who chose as its site an ancient fete ground high above River Gurre. One of Denmark’s greatest poets, Holger Drachmann, was a frequent visitor at the Hall and married his host’s younger sister, Emmy.

After the turn of the century, Havreholm Hall was bought by Holger Jantzen, a sugar manufacturer, and thus began a new era in its history. The thing for which Havreholm Hall’s guests can thank Holger Jantzen most is that he persuaded the Danish Painter and professor of art Joakim Skovgaard to decorate the walls of the Hall’s large Paradise Hall.

The result was an interpretation of the Creation in six large and six smaller wall paintings depicting and called the Garden of Eden. The paintings, still in beautiful condition, make a lovely background in what is now Havreholm Hall’s central dining room.

In 1984, Havreholm Slot A/S took over the hall and began its conversion into the modern conference and recreation centre that now stands ready to welcome a new generation of guests to the Hall.
