Havelock Vacation Guide
The small but picturesque town of Havelock, with a population of only 1000 people and as many launches, in nestled at the far end of the far most reaches of the Mahau Sounds. Only 25 mins drive from Blenheim, or an hour from Nelson. Ideally situated for fishing charters and cruises of the beautiful Pelorus Sounds.
Also the Greenlip Mussel harvester vessels leave each day for the mussel lines to harvest the mussel from the clean watersof the Sounds, bringing the product back to havelock where the mussels are steamed open and packed tfor sale.
There is one hotel and two backpackers and many B&B and motels and an excelent camping ground, for the visitors.
Havelocks claim to fame is through its two most famous citizens Lord Rutherford, the first man to split the atom and Willian Pickering who was in charge of the space programme that landed the first man on the moon.
