Delicious Havanna - so sweet!!! May 24, 2008
Argentinean are very well known because of their dulce de leche too.
The "dulce de leche" is a caramel. And using this they prepare the "Alfajores", which are cookies that have two or more layers of a soft, cake-like cookie filled with delicious dulce de leche caramel. You can find the alfajores everywhere and different brands of it. But the best - at least that's my opinion - and one of the oldest is Havanna. Right now they don't only sell alfajores, they have different products which can be found in different stores and in their own cafes. We also have alfajores in Peru, but they are different. In Argentina they always cover them. Either with bitter chocolate or with meringue. Now, you know about it. Next time, look for them and you won't regret it. Just have close to you a glass of water. They could be really sweet. Part of the Buenos Aires Relindo - Very Beautiful Buenos Aires! travel blog |

But before going we stopped at a Havanna’s Store. If you
are in Buenos Aires ,
the Havanna’s Alfajores are a MUST! We bought a couple of boxes for the friends
and family. We kept on moving but mom didn’t ask me anything about how to go to
the mall… Shopping and a fancy delicious meal - We deserved it ;) |

Buenos Aires is a big commercial city with the presence of McDonald’s, Burger Kings, Havanna café chains (although, you can’t deny their amazing alfajores), and despite these places, there is a thriving small-business-owner culture here that allows small “mom-and-pop” restaurants and cafés to exist and compete against the “big guys”. Perhaps a reason… Café Culture |
