From Prostitution Alley to Snake Alley Feb 06, 2017
This night market is probably one of the oldest tourist destinations in Taipei, and is also known as Snake alley. You cannot miss the entrance as there is a Chinese traditional gate with red lanterns hanging from it to welcome you. The gate leads you to a long alley which has a roof, making it an indoor market, another custom of Taiwan. The market is two blocks long and you can find some strange things on sale here such as deer *** wine, turtle testicles and snake delicacies, such as their blood and beating heart, which gives the alley its name.

Unfortunately i visited it in the morning and never had a chance to return in the evening which was a great pity as i would love to sample some snake meat. The market opens at 4 pm and closes at 12 midnight. All i saw were small restaurants, jewelry stores, craft shops, massage parlors in this former legal red light district. Yes, from 1930 to 1990 there were strip clubs, pornography shops and prostitutes from nearby brothels, some of them clearly minors who had been sold by their parents. In 1991 the Taiwanese government banned prostitution and Huaxi Street became a respectable area.
