Katakuri , Dog tooth violets Mar 31, 2013
In this cherry blossoms season, katakuri, dog tooth violets grow in colonies at the foot of mountain in a nature park along Kani River. Katakuri grow throughout northeastern Asia and Japan. They are so pretty, growing under deciduous broadleaf trees. They have appeared for 4 or 5 weeks on the ground in early spring. The flowering period is only 2 weeks. They are dormant under the ground from May to September. They take root in late October. Katakuri is a perennial plant.
