Hathee Singh Temple
Hathee Singh Temple Ahmedabad Reviews
Jain art Feb 02, 2011
Constructed in the nineteenth century, Hathee Singh Temple is an impressive Jain temple which is situated in the heart of Ahmedabad. The temple is famous for its rather intricate carvings which appear to be divine creatures and rather erotic ones at times too!
Apart from the heavily decorated façade, the interior is beautifully made up of these rather lavish galleries and cloisters. Each one appears to be dedicated to a Jain deity.
No photographs are permitted inside the temple. If you visit, ensure that you are properly dressed (ie no skimpy t-shirts and short skirts for girls, and no shorts and vests for guys!).
In a city which is crowded with Hindu temples and Muslim mosques, this sight makes a distinctive and worthy visit.
