Harpers Ferry National Historical Park Reviews
History and Nature Jul 18, 2009
If you're interested in history and nature, Harpers Ferry is a great place to spend a day.
Displays spread throughout the town provide historical information related to the industry, transportation, and people that shaped the valley while restaurants and shops bring the town to life.
Some hints: expect to spend the whole day here, you really can't fully appreciate it otherwise.
If you have kids, make sure to stop at the Information Center in the downtown and pick up a Junior Ranger booklet.
Take a hike but first put on bug spray. In fact, put on bug spray before you venture very far from the shuttle drop-off. The bugs may be small but they can get very annoying quickly if you are near the water or hiking a lot.
On the hike carry at least a bottle of water with you. If you go on the Maryland Heights Overlook trail, bring along a lunch and have a picnic looking down on Harpers Ferry.
On a warm day take advantage of the historical displays inside the buildings since they will be cooler. Budding archeologists will probably be fans of the Restoration Museum with its unfinished digging and reconstruction to show how the buildings of the town have changed over the years.
