Hardanger Fjordhytter Oystese Reviews
Peaceful by The Fjord Apr 30, 2010
Ok we had a reason for being here, but it seemed quite popular as none of the cabins were ever empty.
Øystese is about a 2 hour drive out of Bergen, and situated on the Hardanger Fjord.
There are 4 cabins here, and you can rent them by the week, or for a weekend. The huts have been added at different times and, although they are all of the same standard, they do vary slightly.
Coming from Bergen they are a five minute drive on the other side of Øystese. Took about 20 minutes to walk back into Øystese.
The cabins are well spaced out and behind them is a 5th building that serves as a laundry room and storage area for the proprietors. above that though is another apartment, but that is for the use of family guests.
First thing that stikes you is the turffed roofs. I was going to complain, since I think ours was the only one that didn't have a tree growing on it :D
The cabins can sleep up to 9 people, one room with two beds, one with a bed and a set of bunks, two beds up in the roof space( accessed by a ladder so my son obviously claimed that as his own :D ), and a fold down settee bed in the living room.
Well set out kitchen, and some sattelite TV stations on the TV. This far out a safe is irrelevent :)
Set right on the shore, there is a swing park for the children, you have free use of the rowing boats that are tied to the jetty, and you can hire motor boats from the owners.
Each cabin has a terrace/balcony that was great to sit out on and take in the view over the d fjord, from the village nearby right across to the glacier on the other side.
Although it was May, we still had snow while we were there, and the place had heaters that were more than enough. Obviously still popular in winter there was a wood burning stove in the corner of the kitchen.
We were there as a group, taking up three of the cabins and it was a great place to stay
