OK, so we all know what Harbin is famous for, its the world famous Snow and Ice festival.

Seeing as i was living in the next city along i thought it would of been rude not to of gone and seen what it had to offer.

Some bad news that we had heard was the price. This year it was 280Y. This was an extortionate price increase from 150Y the previous year. We didnt want to pay either price seeing how bad it was for China( many chinese people cannot afford this so in that respect it is a disgusting price). So we made sure we got fake student ids from Thailand and blagged cheaper entry( only 150Y ).

The place itself was amazing, everywhere you looked the was some sort of ice sulpture. They had castles, the colloseum a huge harbin beer and many many more.

One major problem was the cold(obviously) we had so many layers on but were still frozen solid. So we interspersed the sight seeing with jumping into small cafes for warm drinks.

They also had alot of animals for the locals to poke and tease( very common in Asia, let alone China). Amongst them were reindeer, Yaks, artic foxs and horses.

After maybe and hour and a half it was so cold it was time to leave. So we headed back to the city centre for some dinner!

if you are coming straight from the west it probably wouldnt bother you paying so much, but as im living in China im used to chinese prices and the ones at the festival were a bloody joke. Its an awesome site though!

Ice Festival Feb 14, 2011
An Awesome place to pay a visit to. Every year, Harbin hosts the Ice & Snow Festival, which consists of dozens and dozens of glowing ice sculptures. There are small statues, and giant castles. There are also ice slides, which are always fun.

At night, the fluorescent lights (embedded in the ice) turn on, giving all of the sculptures a rainbow glow. It's quite a beautiful sight to behold.

It can be expensive to get in (¥280, as of Feb '11), but if you have a student card, you'll pay almost half. Apart from the high price and blistering cold (Harbin reaches below -30C in Winter), it is a great festival.

Definitely worth it though. Loved it! :D

Harbin Annual Ice Affair - International Ice and Snow Festival Feb 07, 2008
You would never miss this grand event if you were there in Harbin for the winter. Or more likely, you are there because of this isn't it?

You really need to be there, in person to witness one of mankind most extraordinary & laudable efforts in the carved and sculptured statues of epic porportions from mundane ice blocks!!!

And also, to enjoy the transient moment before it melts when sunny days return!

Of course, when you are there, you would naturally head for the night Ice Lantern Festival too, which is just adjacent to it at an additional entry cost too ;)
