Haputale Overview

A Picturesque Town located along the Colombo Badulla Main road, Haputale is famous for its breathtaking view points owing to its strategic location. It can be considered as the Door to the Uva province (the hill Province). The climb up to haputale along the winding road is one which has opened the imaginations of many poets and writers. So much so there is many literature to describe this climb along with the waterfalls that adorn the path , which used to aid the tiring traveler of the yesteryear.

The smell of freshly dried and grinned tea is experienced from the entrance to the exist of this town which stretches for about 2 kms. The city also houses a popular vegetable markets which all local travelers stop to stock up on fresh produce of the hill country. There are two popular turnoffs from Haputale to "Adisom Bunglow" & "Lipton's Seat" both two popular tourist attractions.

Constantly Covered in mist, the weather in Haputale changes in a flash from bright sun shine, to foggy rain. The Majority of the city are Tamils and the "Kovils" (Hindu Shrines ) are located right along the the road. The main income in this area is from Tea and Vegetable Cultivation/ Trading, as it is considered as a strategic midpoint in terms of transportation.
