Happy Valley York Reviews
Delicious and affordable Chinese cuisine Jun 26, 2011
It's quite hard finding good and affordable Chinese cuisine in York, most of those that are cheap are really awful and nowhere near decent. A visit to Happy Valley in Goodramgate changed that. The place is small and cosy, with plenty of Chinese students dining inside. That's always a good sign-- by rule of thumb, to see how good a Chinese restaurant is, see how many chinese people there are in it :D
The service was very prompt and there was a huge range of dishes available. For 10 pounds, I had a starter, main meal and a drink. I had the crispy duck for my starter and black bean beef for my main course. Absolutely heavenly, and only 8 pounds in total, which is really cheap! The servings are quite big so if you have a small appetite, do consider sharing with your friends so that you can try more dishes at one go! If you don't know what to get, do ask the staff for advice- they are very friendly and helpful!
One tip: Go on weekdays if you can, it gets really packed during weekends!
