Happy Inn Lodge

We may have visited at an off-peak time because there weren’t many people in the city. However, this is the great adventurous city of Interlaken and they’re probably all off doing an extreme sport of some type. We often saw hang-gliders as we walked the city streets. The hostel has a very young atmosphere to it. Everyone we crossed paths with was super friendly and laid back! Check-in was a tad confusing at first because we didn’t really know who was in charge of checking-in… low and behold, it was the bartenders. The bar owners were accommodating, pleasant, and easy to talk to. The rooms are above a bar/restaurant, but it wasn't unbearable for a Thursday night stay. The bar closed at midnight that night and the worst part was probably listening to the front door slam right below the room. We stayed in a room for two; it was located at the front of the house with windows opening to the street. The room was huge, clean, and had a light and airy feel to it. I wouldn’t recommend this hostel to those who have anything against stairs, due to the fact all rooms are located up an older, creaky staircase. The hostel is located only blocks away from the local train station, which makes for a very easy in and out if this is just one of your vacation pit stops. The neighborhood is quiet, quaint, and ideal for this location. I consider this hostel a great value for younger people, backpackers, easy going families, and older people with a thrifty side to them. The good ol’ community bathroom was easy to deal with due to the fact that they have a sink in each room. I am all for saving money if it means you will be sharing a toilet and shower with others, but a sink is a different story. I like to hand wash some of my clothes when I travel far and wide, the in-room sink provided somewhere to do this without impeding on others stay. The bar food was delicious, some of the best food we had on our trip. I recommend grabbing your bite to eat here to save on time exploring this great area. The woman working there was extremely knowledgeable about the city and recommended Zorbing (cart-wheeling down a mountain side) to us. We were too tall to fit into this crazy contraption; otherwise her suggestion would have fit into our plans effortlessly! Depending on the type of traveler you are, be aware that the check-out time is 10 am. We didn’t have any problems with this as we were ready to explore the city. They do have a separate area to store your bags while awaiting check-in or abiding by check-out time. However, the security of this room was virtually nothing, so I wouldn’t recommend this. This is a beautiful city and great place to stay while visiting Interlaken, I will stay here again on my return to Interlaken someday.
