Hanze Huis Groningen Reviews
Unique gifts Aug 31, 2011
The Hanze huis (Hansa house) was on my list of "to do - to visit" things, and thus we payed this shop a visit.
We were delighted by the syrup bottle display at the entrance, and when we entered the shop we were offered some licorice (Amarelli, since 1731) while our eyes drank in the sight of shelves full of delicious things.
All kind of food goodies from all over Europe is sold, ehh... that is to say: The Hanze huis only sells goods from traders/shippers (preferably from Hansa towns) if their company is established for over 50 years. That is just the way the Hanze huis does is doing their business.
There was Marzipan from Lübeck (Carstens, since 1845), the fruit syrups from Guiot (Lille, since 1871), jams and marmelade from Copenhagen (Bangs, since 1878), just to name a few.
It was now very easy to find a nice gift to bring home to our Mom. She would have really liked this shop, but we had to make a choice and went for a Groninger koek (spice cake) and rose hip-orange marmelade from Bangs, Copenhagen. And believe me (Mom insisted we had a sample of it) it is sooo good!
So if you are looking for something different as a gift, I recommend this place.
